How Long do Garage Door Springs Last?
Garage door torsion springs typically last between 6-12 years. A standard spring will last 10,000 cycles (opens/closes), while higher quality springs may last more than 30,000 cycles.
Installing the correct spring for your doors size and weight, and properly balancing the spring is the best way to ensure a long lifespan.
Lubricating your spring a couple of times per year can also extend it’s life. Only use the lubrication suggested by your spring manufacturer, this is normally a silicone-based spray.
Torsion springs may not last as long in very cold or very humid climates. Extreme weather conditions can weaken the metal, create more friction, and create rust that wears the spring out. The Wichita, Kansas area experiences all types of weather, but it is for the most part, a moderate climate, so springs often last 7+ years.
